JIMAS was delighted to take part in the unique Zip Slide event at Portman Road on 28th June which raised nearly £30,000 in total for St Elizabeth's Hospice, for them to continue to provide care for the people of East Suffolk.

This 'once in a lifetime' opportunity saw around 200 brave souls stepping off the top tier of the Greene King stand from a height of 200 feet. Reaching speeds of up to 30mph, they flew over the award-winning Ipswich Town pitch, covering 335ft in a matter of seconds before coming to a stop on the landing site in the North Stand below. This first ever sponsored zip slide at the Ipswich Town Football Club (ITFC) offered a unique view of Portman Road, as they zoomed across the award winning pitch.

Participants had to be aged 14 or older, be able to follow instructions, be fit and healthy (within a certain weight limit), and not of a nervous disposition. Each participant had to raise a minimum of £200 in sponsorship.

St Elizabeth Hospice was established in 1989 and cares for patients in East Suffolk who have a life-limiting illness for whom the focus of care is quality of life.

Our purpose is the improvement of people’s quality of life – aiming to meet all of our patient’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs whilst giving support and help to family, friends and carers.

Our services include an in-patient unit, day care services, out-patient clinic, a Hospice at Home service, family support team, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and complementary therapies such as massage, reiki and aromatherapy.

St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity and all of the wide ranging services are provided free of charge to patients, families and carers.

It costs £8 per minute to run St Elizabeth Hospice, with annual running costs of £4.2 million.
