  CHARITY

Take charity (sadaqah) from them in order to purify them and sanctify them with it.
[Surah At-Tawbah (9) Ayah 103]

JIMAS was started by 4 brothers in the early eighties at the University of Kingston in Surrey. Since its inception it has been independent of foreign or government aid and focuses on practicalities. It highly emphasises personal sacrifice and values commitment to fulfilling the needs of the community, however small. The foundation of Tawhid and the correct creed is emphasised all the time.

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "And what illness is worse than miserliness?"
[Reported by Ahmad]

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Two qualities will never be joined in a believer: miserliness and bad manners"
[Reported by Bukhari in "Adab-ul-Mufrad" & At-Tirmidhi]

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Every act of goodness is charity. The one who guides to good is like the one who does it.
[Reported by Al-Baihaqi]

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "After the death of a person his actions stop except for three things that he leaves behind: continuous charity (sadaqah jaariyyah), knowledge from which benefit is obtained, and a righteous son who prays for him.
[Reported by Muslim]

From its fruits are the establishment or growth of:

  1. Muslims who have gained various degrees of proficiency in Islamic studies at home and abroad, many of whom are either speakers or gainfully employed in teaching Islam.
  2. Da’wah centres and mosques.
  3. Relief and charity work abroad.
  4. Da'wah tables in the streets of many UK towns and cities.
  5. Converts to Islam.
  6. Introduction and promotion of scholars and competent students of knowledge from abroad and at home in the UK.
  7. Publications, publishing houses, audio/CD production, bookshops, courses, seminars, conferences and exhibitions.
  8. Collection and distribution of Zakah to deserving recipients in the UK who may be otherwise neglected.
Behold, you are those invited to spend (of your substance) in the way of Allah, but among you are some who are miserly. But any who are miserly are so at the expense of their own souls. But Allah is free of all wants, and it is you that are needy. If you turn back (from the Path), He will substitute in your stead another people; then they would not be like you!
[Surah Muhammad (47) Ayah 38]
